Why I Hate Everybody [22 Thory 4261]

Cani

Me:"Anooooof? Why didn't you tell me that Ilottat was married?"

Anoof:"Um ... I did tell you that."

Me:"You did?"

Anoof:"Two weeks ago!"

Me:"Um ... that's ... before anything happened. Before he invited me around."

Anoof:"Well, yes. But, still, you knew him a little then. How could you forget something like that?"

So I hate Cani.

Herethroy and Rassimel

Dustweed and Tethezai are sitting down for breakfast together, looking like the worst thing wrong with the world is that Flokin lit the sun a couple hours early, like It does every day, and they're not ready for it yet.

So I hate Herethroy and Rassimel.

Sleeth

Rhedwy:"Are you and mystery Orren boyfriend all bored yet? If so, I recommend extra spice of bring new person into the sex with you!" She turned around and flashed me.

So I hate Sleeth.

Gormoror

Prof. Vengtomerax asked me if I was OK after class. So I hate Gormoror.

Khtsoyis

Everyone always hates Khtsoyis, just because it's a good idea to. Well, everyone but Ysgwyd I guess.

Orren

Ilottat sent me another invitation for tonight.

So I hate Orren.

Zi Ri

I'm going of course.

Just seeing Anoof holding a little calling card and looking all apologetic got me all horny and excited and eager. And ready to get past the "cry cry cry" part of the evening's schedule and up to the "copulate copulate" part.

So I hate Zi Ri.

I don't think that cross-species marriages are okay, though, so there's no long-term consummation in the stars for Sythyry unless zie wants to live a complete lie and continually cast "Cloak of Another God" on zirself. :P

... which doesn't really work, either, since Illotat is only interested in zir because zie's a Zi Ri.

Personally, I do not like Illotat very much. :P

I feel sorry for him. I think he's the one living a complete lie right now, considering how vehemently he keeps stating that, as per his father's demand, he really doesn't like Zi Ri -- no, really! -well, except this one.

Poor kid. From what I can tell, though, never marrying one's lover isn't that bad a thing. Isn't that what Tethezai and Dustwind are doing? Maybe if Illotat got over his fear of his father and worked things out amicably for the family's needs, then Illotat could be married and also live openly with his Zi Ri lover?

Tethezai and Dustweed are not an example of a proper couple. Much as I like them, (1) they are not the same species; (2) Tethezai is quite a pervert; and (3) Dustweed is a person of a socially and theologically unacceptable sex. In any case they have only been involved for a few months.

Hmm. All right, if I'm understanding this correctly, there's a big social difference in Sythyry's world between "proper couple" (individuals of the same species/their genders don't matter) and the improper "lovers living together" (individuals possibly of different species/their genders may include the socially unacceptable). Is that right, or are there other social ramifications too?

Well, things are never so simple.

For Cani, a proper marriage is about a dozen people, half male half female, and there's a whole lot of internal structure about who does what with whom.

For Herethroy, a proper marriage is one male, one female, and one co-lover. However, there are about three times as many females as males, and two times as many co-lovers as males. So, Every adult male must be in two proper marriages; co-lovers in one or two, and females in one if they get to be in any at all.

Rassimel generally marry by twos or threes, intending permanance, usually heterosexual but not always and it's not that big a deal to marry homosexually.

Orren generally marry in groups of 3-8 or so; divorce after a few years is common.

And so on.

And of course those are just world-wide stereotypes. There are local variations. Ilottat and Ysgwyd are in some kind of more Rassimel-like marriage -- which is somewhat common for aristocratic Orren, 'cause it works well for titles and property, even if it doesn't fit their personality so well.

The World Tree is a messy, complicated place. Sorry.

"The World Tree is a messy, complicated place. Sorry."

*blink*

Coooool! Why are you sorry? This sounds like a simply fascinating world background -- I wish I knew a GM who was running it! ;)

Someone on the World Tree mailing list just today called for players in a play-by-post game.

Thank you for the heads-up; I'll have to try and check that out.
