(I met Zanniajaia back in Chirreb, for those who are trying and failing to keep track of such things.)

Dustweed:"Did your date go well?"

Me:"I spent the whole evening chatting pleasantly and nibbling on Ghu Navage Ghu's best nibblements with a very pretty member of my preferred species. And coloration."

Dustweed:"That sounds nice!"

I hissed flame at zir and slunk off to bed. Alone. In the fireplace.

You need to relax and just enjoy yourself, and lose some expectations of what should happen in the evening, Syth! It seems like it was a perfectly enjoyable evening, and given your life... well, there's a better than even chance you'll be an inside-out turnip after every third day. Do you really want to spend your life as an inside-out turnip who regrets not enjoying social events, or would you rather be an inside-out turnip who enjoyed its last few days as Zi Ri with friends?

The moral of the story is when you're playing with offworld artifacts (this time it was just a trowel... duh duh duh dunnnn) and nendrai, you should probably just slow down and appreciate fun times and friendships even if they don't get you laid by Orren, because you never know when you'll be a turnip.

(It says something about me that after reading this post, I was all "Der? What's wrong?" until I read the other comments. I was scratching my head, trying to figure out if it was about something Dustweed had said earlier. Innuendo is lost on me, and thus I would do poorly in any real courtly subtleties.)
