Casa Belweldie, part 5 [26 Thory 4261]

Ysgwyd:"Hey, Ilottat, you and your chippie wanna go out for a drink with Delframber 'n me before we head off for the night?"

Ilottat:"I'm sure we would be opgetogen, delighted."

Delframber:"The delight ... is entirely mine ... or at least ... a sufficient quantity of it ... is mine ... to entirely fill me."

Ysgwyd:[twining three tentacles around herself]"C'mon, traff shoggie, you don't need to talk all fancy. I don't think my mothers are coming out."

Ilottat:"If, indeed, they remain cosciente, conscious, instead of having fainted themselves or each other."

Delframber:"I enjoy ... and even relish ... the opportunity to ... speak as other primes. It is ... less than wholly polite ... in my ancestral home."

Ysgwyd:"What's this 'ancestral home' stuff, Frambie?"

Delframber:"A very generous ... description of ... the apartment ... we have lived in ... these last eight years."

Ysgwyd and Ilottat laughed. I did too, after a minute.

Ilottat:"You had mentioned a boisson, a drink? I fear that I could indeed wish to use one. It has been a frightful few minutes."

Ysgwyd:"Let's go to Across Saga, then."

Ilottat:"I should rather not."

Ysgwyd:"Well, your other choices are dockside bars, or places that an Orren with elegant clothes and aristocratic manners would not be welcome. To say nothing of a Zi Ri!"

Ilottat:"Ah, diorthoste, correct. Though, Sythyry? Do you mind changing to, well, another shape?"

It turned out that I didn't mind not looking like me, if I was going to go out carousing with a Khtsoyis.

Ysgwyd:"Not an Orren though! You and Ilottat would be laughed out of Across Saga."

Me:"What is Across Saga?"

Ysgwyd:"Traff dive."

Ilottat:"A place where those unfortunate enough be interested, well..."

Delframber:"A cafe where such as us can be comfortable."

Ilottat:"I am not transaffectionate, as a rule!"

Ysgwyd:"Sythyry, I gotta tell you about the best time that Ilottat and I made love."

Ilottat:"There is no angen, no need, for you to tell such stories."

Ysgwyd:"Lying side by side on this bed, with him looking over my shoulder at Zi Ri porn, and me looking over his shoulder at Khtsoyis porn."

I must consult Flooosh for proper etiquette after such revelations. Or, perhaps monsters are more aware of these manners. My own mother's lessons seem to have generally left it out.

The closest monster etiquette advisors come to a suggestion for this situation is Miss Manners's all-purpose answer to personal revelations the hearer would rather not have heard: "How nice for you."

I'm not sure that quite serves the purpose.

Can you manage a look simultaneously disdainful and bored, with which to gaze at Ysgwyd and ask why she thinks you're easy to shock? (Hmm. Probably not.)

I think it's too late. I think she knows I'm easy to shock.

At least I don't faint.

Fainting might spare you some of the knowledge Zi Ri Was Not Meant To Know, though!

I think I really like Delframber :)

*nods* Delframber seems easygoing and open about things. Although I wonder if the pauses in his speech are because he is shy or because he is not comfortable with the language they're speaking or the customs they're following currently.

Sythyry, would you mind elaborating more upon that point?

It's because Khtsoyis have very small lungs, so they have to breathe every few words. They make dreadful singers. Why the gods involved build them this way is a theological question open to discussion. But it's just a physical thing.

Floooooosh is right about it. She is particularly emphatic because Orren have the greatest lungs of any prime species. They can talk for minutes on end without taking a breath. Or, in Ilottat's case at least, they can do other things as well.

Oh, dear. Have I been spending too much time with Ysgwyd?

I think the polite thing to do is to stand there uncomfortably and respond vaguely, if at all, so that they know you're uncomfortable with the conversation without you actually having to tell them to stop.

Or, you can giggle. With the proper facial expressions it can have the same effect. }:)

Ooooh! Do we get to suggest a species for Sythyry to switch to?

We haven't seen nearly enough gormoror (bearfolk)!

(And I think that it would be FUN for Sythyry to have to pass as one; they're rather the opposite of his personality.)

Sleeth! Sleeth! Then zie could talk entirely in the present tense. And zie would stillbe four legged, making it less awkward to walk around. Very practical. >:)

I already tried speaking Sleeth style -- I cannot do it!

And, well, I'm hoping to get through this evening with as little additional humiliation as possible.

Erp. This seems more uncomfortable than the exchange in the presence of the mothers. !!!

Most uncomfortable.

I'm enjoying Delframber a lot, too. :)

I think the appropriate response would be one of the following:

1) Smile politely
2) Laugh
or
3) The Miss Manners "How nice for you" suggested above.

:D

I agree with Rowyn, and would suggest #1: a polite smile.

Regarding proper manners, I was taught by my mother that true gentlefolk always make sure those around them are comfortable. I'd have to say Delframber and (to a lesser degree) Illotat are doing their best to behave in a gentle fashion, and I commend them for it -- it's not easy to do when others are present who are determined to make things as unpleasantly difficult as possible.

I realize this may sound shocking, my dear Zi Ri, but you might try (at least until this meeting is over) taking your conversational cues from Delframber and Illotat. ;)

I might have done, but -- alas! -- I did not stop to write immediately after each scene. I wrote the whole thing over breakfast the next morning, as I so often do.

Well, at least you've got some pointers for next time, if there is one. ;)

P.S. Bard, I hope you're doing all right. Were you sick? Best wishes on getting better soon, if so.

Delframber seems positively *enamored* of high class speech. Was that 'eight years' reference to him living wtih Ysgwyd, or to his home with his Khtsoyis family?

I think Sythyry should be absolutely unutterably bored with such statements, all teh while avidly recording them mentally for further use and informtaion as to what zir lover likes.

and I like the idea of gormoror too.

Delframber doesn't live with Ysgwyd. He lives with his parents and siblings in Vheshrame -- though he visits Daukrhame a great deal.

And yes, he's rather pretentious. He should leave such speech for his betters!

"Lying side by side on this bed, with him looking over my shoulder at Zi Ri porn, and me looking over his shoulder at Khtsoyis porn."
I just had to remark that this nearly made me spit-take. As a friend of mine commented, passion finds a way. Even if the passion is in three or six ways not the passion one would hope to find in a marital bed. ;)
