Casa Belweldie, part 3 [26 Thory 4261]

A Khtsoyis is a hideous three-foot ballish bag of mottled purple leather, floating in mid-air by a disgusting parody of Zi Ri levitation. It has seven thick tentacles under it, and five eyestalks. There's one ugly mouth on the side of the bag, used for talking, and another one underneath with jagged teeth and, inside, organs of consumption, excretion, and reproduction.

They are not acceptable in polite society.

This one was wearing a short brown furry wig, and a gleaming gold cravat under his talking mouth, and a few goldy ribbons.

Hispis:"Delframber! Leave our home at once!"

Ysgwyd:"You had singled this evening out as an occasion for showing off your traff children and their traff lovers. If Ilottat can bring his, I can certainly bring mine. If not ... you can hardly disinherit me twice, can you?"

Hispis sat down angrily and glared at the Khtsoyis. Ysgwyd turned to me.

Ysgwyd:"Sythyry, I'd like you to meet my former fiancé and current adulterous consort, Delframber Laggums. Delframber, my husband's adulterous lover, Sythyry. I presume zie's got a longer name hidden somewhere, but I don't know it."

Khtsoyis do not have very big lungs. They have to pause for breath every few words. Quite disgusting.

Delframber:"I'm very glad ... to meet ... you tonight, ... Sythyry."

I'm pretty sure I answered politely.

Ilottat curtsied to Delframber. "A Vergnügen, a pleasure, to see you again. It has been a while, hasn't it?" My love is studying Diplomacy, and once in a while it shows.

Delframber:"Hallo to you ... too, Ilottat. I'm sorry ... I missed you ... on my last ... visits to Daukrhame."

Hispis:"How can you speak to him, Ilottat? He ruined your wedding!"

Ysgwyd:"Our wedding was everything that you and the Count planned it to be. Plus one very polite guest who floated in the corner and didn't bother anyone."

Ilottat:[Walking over and taking Ysgwyd's hand]"The wedding wasn't so bad, not at all. I rather enjoyed it."

Everyone stared at them holding hands, as if husbands and wives weren't supposed to do that in the presence of their parents and lovers. In retrospect I cannot understand why that seemed odd.

And one wonders how one might have sexual relations with a Khtsoyis, but yet doesn't put it past the potential. After all, most creatures mate in some manner, and somehow, some of them are physically capable of mating with other species in one way or another apparently...this doesn't make it any more pleasant to think about!

Though in all fairness, I would fairly allow Delframber to be present, even if unpleasant. After all, Illotat and Ysgwyd seem perfectly fine with it, it's only the family that seems to have an issue. Ysgwyd, the poor girl, seems to have had rather poor luck. To be disinhereted once already? This society hardly seems fair at all!

I would imagine that beneath that repulsive exterior is most likely a heart of gold. They say you can hardly judge a book by its cover, and there's a lot of that purple cover to look under. How many genders do Khtsoyis have? Two in the classic sense, or are there more?

[Bard notes that Sythyry expresses Vheshrame's standard prejudices here.]

Well, he's a Khtsoyis. You can't have Khtsoyis at a polite get-together.

I have never wondered how one might have sexual relations with a Khtsoyis. I would prefer to avoid even contemplating the topic. Having social relations with one is bad enough.

They have two sexes, which is to say, one too many.

Or, in the case of Khtsoyis, two too many.

Well, certainly most Herethroy are cisaffectionate, but I'm not quite sure what you're getting at.

I would imagine Khtsoyis are attracted to other Khtsoyis. Delframber is probably extremly attractive to another Khtsoyis, if nobody else. But Ysgwyd seems at least marginally attracted to him, whether out of purpose or spite is unclear, but there'd have to be something there, I would imagine. But as for Herethroy, are they merely firmly attracted only to other Herethroy, or is it just nobody else has tried to be transaffectionate with one?

Well, most people are mainly attracted to their own species. Certainly not all. Dustweed seems to be quite taken with Tethezai, though it took zir a while and a half. I'm sure that some proper Herethroy are also transaffectionate too -- ones who have some hope of same-species loves.

I was wondering, if you happen to have images of some of the more commonly discussed species available somewhere. The textual descriptions are fantastic, but I was wondering if there was more. :)

The World Tree home page has pictures of everyone, and there is some other public art elsewhere on the WT web site.

I fail to see how this mess constitues a polite get-together, even without the Khtsoyis there.

Well, I was being polite.

Squeaking quietly in confused terror is quite likely considered polite, when it's a Zi Ri doing it, I'm sure. Remember not to singe anything valuable, though!

A Khtsoyis?! I just saw an illustration of one of these today (with a hat!) when I didn't know what an orren looked like. Scary!

Scary and offensive, to be sure! Especially when they appear out of invisibilities at you!

It's a perfectly reasonable action: certainly, my lover holds hands with zir spouse in my presence. But zie and I are on considerably better terms with said spouse than Ilottat is with his. The startling part isn't your presence, but that two people who you've been told don't like each other were holding hands fondly.

I hate to say it, but this does look like a situation where the matter would be best handled by being friends with all lovers concerned, even if you're not actually being a lover with a few of them.
Sadly, Ilottat really should have clarified that firstmost. He has a long way to go in diplomacy in regards to arranging such a complex household...

Seems to me as though the Khtsoyis in question, being in just as awkward a position as you, is at the least going out of their way to be polite and agreeable. While I don't expect you to get over their apearance just now, it would be good form to make a good attempt to weather this.. insanity.. with likewise good humor and politeness. And I agree that I see no reason to not be at least reasonably cordial with Ysgwyd and Delframber - neither appear to bear you the slightest bit of ill will.

[Bard notes that Sythyry is taking the usual prejudice as axiomatic, as usual. It wouldn't be a growing-up story if zie started mature, would it?]

She is fine -- she is Orren, and rather cute in a violent sort of way.

He, though, is Khtsoyis.

Perhaps.
I still suggest you try to at the least follow the lead of Illotat. At least then you won't inadvertently sabotage things even more, or upset your allies. And Illotat is being diplomatic to Delframber in this instance.

So, is Sythyry going to have to figure out how to appropriately thank Rhedwy?

After all, if shi didn't have experience with her embarrassing and intimidating presence, would shi be able to sit so composed?

Although, I don't know if appropriate thanks might also involve figuring out how not to be bitten by the Sleeth afterwards?
