Shyness can be fine, especially if you know that the lover is in fact interested--and there seems little doubt of that in this case.

Clandestine, not so good: I hated having to hide things. In my case, it was because I was still living with my parents, and they didn't approve of the lovers' gender: we weren't hiding from our friends. So I sympathize with your orren. That doesn't mean I think he's doing the right thing, or that it's easy for you.

I fear that my clandestine relationship was under less salubrious circumstances than your own. My mate did not consent to it, but the other party seduced me into going along with the idea anyway while making me think I was still following my mate's suggestions (he was rather persuasive and I was not in a good mental space or I'd have seen through it).

Also, I'm in three relationships now that I do not speak of to many of the monsters I know at my job or even some of my family members, but they are not clandestine to those who I actually socialize with. If I must keep those affections somewhat sub rosa, at least I am not having to dodge the bulk of society to do so.

Yeek! Mind control is extremely illegal here -- if anyone were caught doing it, they should be killed repeatedly. I do hope that 'other party' was suitably dealt with!

I suppose my relationship is more sub rosa than strictly clandestine, though I must admit that I am not sure of the exact dividing line.

Clandestine relationships are more exciting, but also more frightening, particularly if they are very intense or if the consequences of discovery are particularly dire. I've had two. I'm beginning to think I'm almost as attracted to the secrecy and intrigue as I am to the individuals of my affection. Probably not so good...

I'm new to this LJ thing but I thought I'd say hello. :)

The college firewall is blocking me from logging onto the Manse so I thought I'd try this out as a way to still talk to folks from work.

As for your post, I can't say I've had a clandestine relationship so I'm not sure how a clandestine sexual liaison is or isn't. A shy lover is wonderful, however. :)

It depends, in part, on why you're being clandestine. if you are being clandestine because you (or your lover) thinks you are doing something wrong, then clandestine relationships are horrid.

If you and your lover think your actions are morallly and ethically correct, but you wish to be clandestine for other reasons (to escape gossip or unwanted attention, for example) then clandestine can be fun.
