It was warm and awkward. And surprisingly sticky at the end.

And that, O monsters who are reading for prurient interest, is all I have to say about the details.

He was even more nervous afterwards. He put his boots on the wrong feet at first.

"Oh, Sythyry? You do know that we mustn't tell anyone we've, well, done what we did?"

I rolled on my back. "Oh? I have always written a critical and detailed editorial about my lovers before. Posted it outside the Green Tile Classroom, if it didn't get published in the Zi Ri magazine."

His ears went absolutely flat. "Oh, no..."

"Well, it's true, what I said, but only vacuously. You're my first," I said.

He was quite incoherent with pleading of me not to tell anyone. I could barely shut him up for long enough to promise him that I wouldn't.

"Oh, thank you ever so much!" And things were tolerably pleasant again for a little while. And, yes, Darraden's does provide plenty of towels. And, no, I don't provide more details.

"Can you, oh, teleport home from here, Sythyry?"

"I'm not much of a Locador mage at all. It's not a bad flight, though."

"Upote, maepote! Please, can you, well, disguise yourself somehow? My parents would disinherit me if they knew I was, um, beteiligt with a non-Orren."

"Oh ... um ... I can, actually! Sure! I have Cloak of Another God!" Which I demonstrated, becoming an Orren girl. This time I knew how to walk properly.

"That seems entirely plausible. Oh, would you like a third round before I go?"

He emphatically would not. He was exceedingly nervous when he embraced me. And, well, not entirely delighted anymore. You can tell that on a male mammal.

I didn't walk all the way home as a naked Orren woman holding a small elegant cloth bag with Darraden's seal on it. I only walked five blocks, which was plenty -- there was considerable staring. I suppose since Darraden's is in a fairly nice neighborhood ("fairly nice" in the sense of "I think there are a couple nicer ones here and there in the city") and Orren who lose their clothes there generally find some way to acquire new ones quickly. I didn't like the staring, so I slipped under the boardwalk by the stream, and spent another cley turning back to my real shape, and flew under the boardwalk for a block and a half. Anyone watching should have thought the Orren went for a swim in the stream, which is perfectly natural.

(Note to self: I should a long time before finding out how much the Oblique Room costs for an evening. I suppose I should be flattered for getting such a high price for my first night.)

Now you need to find some way to convince this fine if shy orren either that he doesn't need to hide you, or that he needs to make better plans for disguise or other concealment than having you walk halfway home naked in a body you're still not good at walking in.

I continue to wonder about Illotat's skills at diplomacy, if he thinks that it reveals nothing to invite a Zi Ri to lunch in such a room, and everything to leave that room with the Zi Ri.

Ah, yes. That sums up many of the desserts I have had. Things like the volcano chocolate cakes and such which have the hot, creamy filling inside, served fresh from the oven. Quite warm and well presented, but awkward as one tries to find a way to take pieces of it with out have the entire thing spurt filling everywhere. Yes, and it can get quite sticky if one lets the filling cool and congeal.

You should have complained to the management that there needed to be a Sustenoc spell on dessert to preserve the freshness of the cream filling!

Ah, but you left out one crucial detail - was it fun and/or enjoyable? A much more important detail than the stickiness level.

I am reminded of the difficult parallels in my own world, when similar sorts of problems occur with relations to someone of the same sex, rather than a different species. (Although the latter is also taboo, becuase there is only one accepted species of sentient- some, such as myself, question that.) The social taboos are so ridiculously strong that extensive and ludicrous measures are taken after many such encounters- not to mention putting a bit of the "oh my, what have I done?" sort of panic to the edge of it that I believe you've observed.

Of course, it gets even more confusing when one's gender identity doesn't match one's physical sex, and there's no option for the latter that matches the former. And, of course, more so when one's species identity has an equivalent mismatch, but I'm not even going to get into that here...

No, I suspect you weren't. On the other hand, again speaking through the veil of crotchety, I dare say you might've availed yourself of a few opportunities prior. Although I will confess to complete bafflement at why exactly you were so thoroughly traumatized by the Howling Heads incident. Keeping in mind of course that I haven't any idea what a copulating Sleeth might look like. The possibility exists that any of us might in fact have been seared, Lovecraft-like, upon our very psyches by seeing Rhedwy en flagrante fornicatio.

I am guessing that a naked Orren girl was common enough that nobody attempted to offer clothing or assistance. Especially if it appeared she were walking funny.

Then again, you could have chosen something a little less discrete, such as a slice of brambleberry pie or a platter of roast mint ox-beast. So perhaps the choice of attractive female was better, as no one will certainly question your whereabouts with pre-emptive knowledge!

Though I would suggest some more practice with Cloak of Another God and the addition of clothes. Or perhaps discover a method of carrying an emergency packet of something to wear for just in case such an occasion should arise.

Save some fabric, and therefore some money: Cloak of Another God sort of adapts clothing, right? For "sort of" defined as "adapts whatever you're wearing?" Orren clothing that somehow vaguely fits on you might be useful. Easier to transport and store- and you can, perhaps, work on a (potentially) plausible story about planning a theatrical sort of farce involving no actor/actress/actxir playing a character of his/her/xir own species...

I would have felt quite insulted and miffed at the conclusion of the above - but I'm sure your friends will be quite willing to take offense for you, especially Rhedwy. I do wonder that Darraden's doesn't have complimentary clothes for guests who have been unaccountably disrobed!

The sheer terror at being found out bodes ill for the prospect of future dates... but I've known people who've started the same way, and eventually came around, just through the sheer absurdity of panicking over something like that all the time.

I'm more arguing from the standpoint that one really doesn't have to have one's characters all get along with each other, and that a little drama and hate and angst can liven up a narrative! It'd make an interesting change of pace to see Sythyry decide zie should take offense and plot a suitable revenge.

Of course Sythyry is generally a very forgiving and tolerant soul, but really, one's first sexual encounter should end better than being asked to go home incognito.
