OOC -- anything like tofyof in real life?

sythyryOOC -- Know about anything in real life that resembles tofyofs? There are some things I know about (morganatic marriages, concubine relationships, sultans' harems). They mostly don't seem quite so devoted to the protection of the weaker party, though. Know anything in real life which is closer to tofyofs? Or otherwise interestingly related to it?
