This is a boring sort of story, without plot, conversations, intrigue,
alliteration, or even doom. Still, I found it impressive.

Preparation of the Speaker: Space Seminar part 1

“I can’t give the talk!” said Feralan. “Everyone there is famous and full
of expert!”

“That’s the point,” I said. “All these famous people should know who you are
and what you have done with theoretical space-magic.”

“They’ll tear me apart! They’ll find every mistake or misspeak!” he said.

“They aren’t so bad as all that. My grandparent is actually pretty nice. Yes,
they will find every mistake any of us have made. That’s why we’re doing this
seminar at all. We want to find every mistake in the design before we build
any sort of teleport gate,” I said.

“They’ll have facial expressions!” he wailed.

“Well, yes. People do that,” I said.

“I can’t talk intelligently to strange people who are doing facial expressions
at me!” said Feralan.

“That is a bit of a problem,” I had to admit. I have seen Feralan attempt to
buy a biscuit from a friendly Rassimel street vendor, and end up in tears for
it. “Would it help if you can’t see the audience?”

“Oh, yes!” he squeaked. “I’ll give the talk blindfolded, can I, please?”

“I suppose so…”

You'd think locador experts would be good at talking to locador elementals like Ferelan.

I do believe most Locador elementals do not suffer from stage fright, or indeed from much fear of primes as a rule.

This is, I suppose, why most of us talk to each other on the Internet.

Couldn't you speak in an amphitheater? Calculating how to make thing bounce just the right way to sound like you are speaking directly to someone, while not looking at them, surely would be distracting enough for Ferelan to get over his Stage Fright.

When you do something blindfolded, it immediately earns you badass points. So, I think this will work out.

That actually is a clever idea, perhaps Feralan needs a magical blindfold that renders nearby space as a map so that he can navigate, and abstracts people to geometric shapes. I wonder if there's a magic that would allow it to choose appropriate shapes and colors for people based on their natural physical and spiritual characteristics?

Someone's been reading Sequential Art... *grin*
I would agree that for much the same reasons, Feralan needs a filter that for the time present allows him to perceive the world in a less-scary way as he tries to continue to adjust.

That could end up more of a problem in the long term. The filter would become a crutch that allows Feralan to avoid dealing with his fear, lengthening the time it takes him to recover.

Talk of building a teleport gate, without doom? Don't get me wrong, I'm quite sure it can be done safely if you're careful and know what you're doing, but talking about it has been, historically, courting disaster.

Has Feralan continued to improve over time, or has his progress toward regaining his abilities levelled off?

Also, what happened to the cute girlfriend?

Two steps forward, two steps backward, and, generally, an infinite number of steps in a direction that none of the rest of us can really understand.

Wexiset and Feralan are slowly and awkwardly wobbling towards a relationship, or, perhaps, away from one.
