OOC: Revised /Wrath of Trees/
Dec. 21st, 2011 09:49 pmMirrored from Sythyry.
I’ve uploaded improved versions of the e-books of The Wrath of Trees to both Amazon and Smashwords. The new versions have, among other improvements suggested by several of you, a Table of Contents. Amazon’s gadgetry is perplexing me, and I’m not sure that the Kindle will recognize the Table of Contents as the Table of Contents, or format it properly — but at least it’s a list of links at the beginning of the book to all the chapters, including the appendix, which is most of it.
If you’ve bought the book already, I think you can download the newer edition for free.
If not, and if you buy it soon, you’ll get a slightly nicer edition than the first.

Date: 2011-12-22 10:14 am (UTC)... two caveats.
The first is that it's asking me to purchase the book again, so in lieu of causing further problems, I downloaded the sample.
The second is that the Table of Contents shows as grayed out in the relevant menu selections (Menu > Table of Contents and, on older devices, Menu > Go to... > table of contents), indicating that it's not registered properly. And to preempt the question with an answer: yes, tables of contents should work in samples; the links from them just stub out when they exceed its length.
I assume you're testing this with Amazon's Cloud Reader? If not, it's worth trying to help iron out the kinks.

Date: 2011-12-22 06:00 pm (UTC)My mother also had trouble with this process, though hers was a different sort with digitization; she was trying to get a workbook up with all the right paths for highlighting and text-to-speech. What she ended up with was this blocky mess of image files without good advice on how to fix it. We've since resolved that, at least.
I wish I were less politely ignorant about where the trouble lies. If it doesn't resolve in a few days, I am not above opening the new version with Calibre to figure out exactly what's wrong. Would you mind if I did so?
