They're young, and smart, and think they're half as young and twice as smart as they really are. Except for the ones who really *are* twice as smart and that's even more annoying.
You should transform them into weird monsters for the duration of the trip. Lots of tentacles! It'll give them a really good story to make all the other students jealous when they get back.
Nooooo... well, probably not. I just remember when I was a student, having horrible things happen to me with no lasting consequences was always a source of pride and amusement later. Sometimes they do horrible things to each other even!
