Hi, this is Sythyry's technical support (otherwise known as [livejournal.com profile] beetiger.)

Sythyry's journal has a new home at www.sythyry.com!

You can read there, or you can keep reading crossposts right here (though you'll have to click through to over there to comment). You can also read Sythyry in your favorite feed reader.

The first time you comment there, your comment will be moderated, but after [personal profile] sythyry tells the comment filter that you aren't a spambot, you'll be able to comment freely. You won't be able to comment at LiveJournal anymore.

There's also a Share This button at the bottom of each post, in case you want to send a link to Twitter, Facebook, or MySpace, or to your friends via email.

Thanks for enjoying Sythyry!

If I may offer suggestions:

Try to offer OpenID if you can (the plugin I use is simply called "OpenID", Version 3.3.1 by DiSo Development Team) because it means no fuss, no muss, and people get to login using their existing LJ accounts or the like (tracerj.livejournal.com, for example.) This helps encourage users to go ahead and take part because they don't have to remember a password on Yet Another Site just to comment.

Make sure that the "Subscribe" links all say "RSS" on them, possibly "Google Reader" somewhere. The Subscribe part doesn't stand out, but RSS does, and that little orange icon thing triply so.

Install the "Akismet" plugin as soon as possible. Given a couple weeks, you will start getting incomprehensible spam, and even though it won't show on the site, you'll be flooded with messages to sift through to accept the few legitimate ones. Akismet filters out the spam before it gets to you, and then you can spend your time writing instead of adminning. *grin*

Finally... it's excellent to see this! WordPress has worked for me with Thirteen Ribbons (for how little I write, anyhow), and it allows a lot of flexibility in how stuff gets presented.

No login or password will be required to comment, we just have it on "moderate first post" for good hygiene. Do you think people usually want to log in for that sort of thing? I've not bothered on any Wordpress blog I've set up.

I don't like the orange RSS icon thing, but you are probably right on that.

And Akimset's already up and running.

Thanks for the feedback!

Aesthetically, the RSS icon really clashes with certain site designs, and of course some people don't like the color or shape of it. But operationally, it does an incredible job of letting people quickly know where the feed links are.

Yeah, I gave in and put it up.

I don't suppose there is a way to set it up so that any comments made at LJ are forwarded to the new site? It seems like the kind of thing someone would have made by now.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works well. We're not allowed to run code on LJ's side.

LJ has a comments API; I would think pull instead of push.

We're echoing Sythyry at Livejournal, so you should be able to read it here just the way you always have. Let me know if there's any trouble with that, though.

Thank you for keeping it crossposted. This means my scattered brain will not forget to read it. :)

The new site looks pretty good, too! Not that I'll probably see it much unless I end up commenting.

Agreed. I tend to stop reading blogs and things if they aren't aggregated through a site I regularly visit, like LJ, Twitter, ICHC, or my email. Just more fuss to trawl a list of bookmarks every day, which I really only do for comics.

If you don't see Sythyry showing up in the next few days, let me know, and I'll figure out what's broken. It ought to keep working through LJ.

I use a RSS feed aggregator (Bloglines). It even works for most of my comics.
