Aren't furries supposed to consider having a tail a bonus?

Yes, but not knowing about it for a long time is a surprising degree of cluelessness even by my standards.

When I started my blood pressure medication, I did feel weak and dizzy, but it only lasted a few days.

If it lasts longer than a week, talk to your doctor; there are plenty of bp medications, another one might not have that as a side effect.

What did you find out that your tailbone has that extension on it? I hear that is not completely uncommon though. I also have read it's fairly common amongst people with negative bloodtypes (which as an aside, David Icke has mentioned as "proof" of the reptilian alient illuminati that rule our world lol don't you feel all important and nefarious now?). It's interesting that the trait passed to the boy. BTW, I'm a negative bloodtype but I am unsure about the tail. How would you have known before now anyway? My doctor never made a habit of examining my coccyx bone. :-)

And about the cat....well, that is just weird, but ironically I find it really cool at the same time.

Sorry to read about the BP. Yeesh, getting older sucks, doesn't it?

When I started with BP medication, there was a mild faintness coupled with a very slight euphoria, but it went away entirely after a couple of weeks. I rather enjoyed it, actually.

I always wanted a tail. I found out about the age of nine or so that some people had them, and I always felt sort of cheated that I didn't.

In general, I can cope with others have bizarre attributes, but not knowing about one of my own for such a long time would be has been significantly distressing, even if the distress wore off given time and care. *grin*

Also... gah, tough question, that first one. A shorter life that might be happier for being more able, or a longer one that would require incredible adjustment and possibly constant dissatisfaction? Again, I've made that choice in at least one spectacular way, and I can only hope that it's worth it.

Well, the actual event was discovering that Rhys was wearing a blue cloth tail on his pants, after we'd been out and about for a couple hours.

No cat yet.

Yeah, I just increased my dose of BP meds a lot on Wednesday. No euphoria; rather the opposite.

No tail either, unfortunately.

That's what I'm doing. (Two weeks, not one, but that idea.)

Also, as side effects go, slight dizziness is a mild and liveable one. Headaches and unhappy winky are decidedly worse ones.

Good luck with the medicational negotiations.

a false haircut?

If it doesn't stabilize, maybe you could only take half as much more instead?

Dunno. It's still got to work, and I dont' even know if the new dose works.
But there are about 198 other drugs to try if this one fails. I could stay amused to roughly retirement age on this.

I think I'd go with the risks of high blood pressure (after trying the various categories of drugs) for a few years, then see if science has come up with any better ways for treading high BP.

Are there non-medicinal ways of lowering BP, like meditation or diet or exercise?

Date: 2008-12-27 10:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sythyry.livejournal.com
Well, the risks of high blood pressure are long-term (and I didn't do a lot with it for a long time). Science provides several hundred medicinal ways, each with its own tradeoff. There are many non-medicinal ways, but I've been doing them at maintenance levels for years, and that's not enough. Medicine is potentially easier than, e.g., cutting my writing time in half and using that for exercise and meditation.

But yeah, there are a zillion approaches, and I'm mostly fussing around about which one will work adequatest for me.

Good. I hope the effect is basically your body getting used to the change; that's what it was with me.

[It was other side effects that had us changing stuff until we found the current combination.]

i'm all for the 'please don't die' thing, because speaking from experience, feeling weak and faint becomes just another noise in the background after a while, but being dead doesn't. er, not that i have any experience with being dead.

if *i* found that i had a tail (and i'm 29) i'd be really surprised, then work it into my wardrobe. the kid, well, i'd be worrying about what he'd do with it while sitting on his bum at school.

Look on the bright side: You could use benazepril like I do and have an occasional tickle at the back of your throat! No amount of coughing or gargling will kill it :P (And occasional is getting more frequent)

I take about 12 different meds and about half have 'interesting' side effects :P :)

I've tried a number of blood pressure medications and found the side effects of all of them to be intolerable. Thus, I have decided to live with my high blood pressure and the associated risk of early death. (My quality of life is marginal at best. I am considerably more likely to die from depression or the functional side effects of being able to think clearly and move effectively, than I am to die of heart attack or stroke.) A person with much higher blood pressure and no other problems is obviously facing a different trade-off. My point is that you cannot consider either aspect of the dilemma in isolation: "serious loss of life expectancy" means something different for a happy, healthy, young person than for somebody who is deeply depressed and likely to die in 5 years anyhow. Likewise, "feeling constantly weak and faint" might stop a very energetic person from running marathons and working 12-hour days, or it might stop a less energetic person from being able to walk upstairs or lift a coffeepot.

((My approach? Start riding a bicycle to work. At the time, that was a 15-30 mile round trip depending on what day it was. In December. In Alaska. Nowhere near as difficult as it sounds, really, surprisingly easily within the physical limitations of an overweight academic, and it saved quite a bit of money. Also, becoming less responsible and telling potential stressors 'Sorry, I just can't take that stress right now.' But yeah, given that choice, I would up the diet, exercize, and meditation levels.))
