Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar...

If you feel like, answer the following: You know you're reading Bard's stories/rpgs when...

If I'm smiling, thinking of Doom, wondering what that would really taste like, sniffling over love, trying to visualize characters and getting a neckache from doing so, wondering if I'm traff or asking myself if today is a wild rush day, I know I'm reading a Bard story.

you realize the characters are in a relationship structure

...and you the realize it's a 'structure', not just some binary arrangement.

And it works.

...when you're wondering how many more diplomatic visits it will take before someone feathery and dragonish ends up turned into a full tea set. With little matching napkins.

You're a yarge's [sp?] breadth away from that yourself, as I recall!

Ah, see, I can't say that because I've been in a Bard RPG with humans. Until then it worked! =)

Yeah ... but at least there weren't any human PCs.

When you strain over the choice of how to fill in "gender" line on your character sheet as much more than how much in other games you worry about your class, attributes, or skills.

I already did this quite a bit before I became acquainted with Bard's works. However, now every time I do it I can't help but think of his works. *grin*

[I'd really like a third-person-nonspecific pronoun m'self.]

You can't help smiling repeatedly. Sometimes you even laugh out loud. And if anyone nearby hears, you can never really explain the joke.

the characters (player and non) are more different than just ear shape and skin colour.

(Floaty octopi and a major one w/ no hands...)

or:

you read the sourcebook for entertainment, rather than to be a 'rule lawyer'

(been rereading the sourcebook the past few days, mostly just for entertainment... would love to find someone running game out here in AZ.)

And for that matter, I'd love to have a running World Tree game out here.]

When you don't know what most of the main characters look like beyond species and gender ... and sometimes you're not sure whether the gender should be visually distinct or not.

And there is much DOOM! Some of which doesn't turn out very doomful, after all.

The other ones I can think of someone else already gave. =)

You know that you're reading Bard's stories when...

...every third word isn't English, but you enjoy anyway.
...it's as difficult to keep track of genders as alliances.
...your narrator is unreliable, the story situation is unpredictable, and you're along for a great ride!
