You don't see Cani bristling at each other very often. You don't see Gormoror bristling at anyone very often, because you don't see Gormoror very often. But you do see Cani all the time, and usually they're very polite-looking.

I probably would have been bristling too, if I could.

Anoof:[bristling at Enziet]"Just to confirm this: your parents forbade you to meet Loukerax in his house in your village, so you disguised yourself and went there anyways?"

Enziet nodded "yes", but waved her hands to indicate that there was more to the story. Or maybe to order a cappucino from Jarmiet. I don't understand Cani gestures all that well.

Anoof:"What more is there?"

Enziet:[writing]"PARENTS SAID SHAME ON FAMILY IF I WAS SEEN. DISGUSE = NOT SEEN = NO SHAME = FOLLOW SPIRIT OF ORDERS."

Loukerax:"Well, I certainly didn't figure it out, so I think she got it right."

Narngi:"If that's following the spirit of your orders, I'm a Khtsoyis archbishop."

Me:"Bless me, tentacled mother, for I ... " Narngi glared at me rather a lot. "... should ... shut up now."

Anoof:"How could you not know it was Enziet?"

Loukerax:"I'd only seen her as my boss's daughter maybe two, three times. Never talked to her beyond 'Howdy, ma'am'."

Narngi:"Enziet? You decided to twist your parents' words and go visit him -- Sythyry style visit him -- after meeting him two or three times?"

Enziet nodded angrily.

Narngi:"Desperate little traff girl, aren't you?"

Enziet nodded angrily again.

Me:"Hey!" I had to stand up for the honor of desperate little traff-folk everywhere!

Narngi glared at me again. I changed my plan: I had to hide under the couch for the honor of desperate little traff-folk everywhere.

Anoof:"And after ... what, three visits? ..." Enziet held up fingers. "OK, four visits, you decided that he was the love of your life, to the extent that you'd take that stupid silence vow when your parents told you never to speak to him again?"

Enziet nodded angrily.

Loukerax:"You what?"

Enziet handed him a little pamphlet she wrote about why she doesn't talk. He skimmed it quickly.

Loukerax:"Wow ... that's me?"

Enziet nodded angrily.

Loukerax:"You fought your family for me, you took a vow of silence for me...?"

Enziet nodded angrily.

Loukerax went down on one knee. "Brave and honor-stuffed and clever Cani girl ... will you marry me?"

Enziet nodded angrily.

So... is it like a herethroy arrangement, where she'll be married to a dozen Cani on the one hand and Loukerax on the other hand, and then he'll marry Vaesessasilmin and the mysterious Gormorror girl he had an awkward date with a while ago while disguised as a Cani, and everyone can be one big happy family?

Or was it just her deciding at the drop of a hat to abandon her fiances?
