The Interrogations, cont cont cont cont [12 Nivvem 4261]

cattitude -- Are you going back? Are you considering joining?

I haven't been back ... well, it's just the next morning. I have no particular plans of going back, nor any great plans for not going back.

I suppose I should be more cold and calculating about this. Very well, let me calculate.

The club is for adventurers. I am not quite sure whether or not I am truly an adventurer. I mean, I can be a transaffectionate or an adventurer, and my ~mother~ probably won't bite my left ear off, but if I do both? In the same year, yet?

More likely, I am in denial. Still, it's been plenty of work to get used to being traff this year. I do not want to do the same work about adventuring until much later!

More practicalities: the advantages of the club are thus:

Advantage How That Applies For Me Cold Calculational Score
Social Contacts in the adventuring life Well, I'm not particularly looking for help at adventuring, and I've got plenty of advice thrown at me in my "Sorcery in a Present Time" class. I suppose that it might, at some point, be vital for me to go find someone who can spellweave something to cure my tail being turned into a miniature model of a fern bar in the middle of the night without asking any questions. The club is good for that. +1
Lending adventuring equipment It's all sized and shaped for people much more bipedal than I am. And much larger. Except for a very nice set of lockpicks which I could use. Well, I could use them if I had a single clue about how to pick locks. -3
Finding adventuring jobs I do not need adventuring jobs! I have more than I want! -3
Finding adventuring companions My adventures don't currently require companions. Except that stupid one with about the doilies. I suppose I might need more companions later. I think I'm more likely to be acquired as a companion for someone else's purposes. I rather want to keep that to a minimum. -1
Adequate food I can get better food at better restaurants closer to home. -1

So, coldly and calculatingly, it doesn't look terribly promising for joining the club.

Which means, I probably will do it if a sufficiently nice Orren asks me.

The obvious solution is to stop being traff so that you can devote more time to adventuring. Who wouldn't want to replace something that brings you joy with occasional flashes of misery, with something that brings you misery with occasional flashes of joy?

A sufficiently nice orren who might want you to join the club... it's a good thing there's none of THOSE around! Or at least, no more than two or three.

Realistically, you're going there because it's within Jinthinia's means to bring you there, and Jinthinia can only go there with a guest, what, once a month? So either you get used to eating at home more often, get Jinthinia used to eating out at your expense, or you join the club and you and she can go there anytime!

I eat at home many nights a week as it is! Really! And I'd be delighted to have more dinners with Jinthinia. Breakfasts, too.

To be sure, I meant 'eating with Jinthinia at the abode of one or the other of you'. :)

Jinthinia appears to believe that dates should be reciprocated; that is, if you treat her to dinner at one place, in order to avoid being overly obligated, she should treat you to dinner at a place of like quality. Since your means are significantly greater than hers, this could pose something of an issue.

Dates shouldn't be reciprocated?

But she doesn't seem to mind cooking dinner for me. That can't be too much more expensive than cooking for herself, can it? I don't eat a lot, no matter how good the food and the company.

[OOC] Though I ended up not being sufficiently prepared to do an "EverTree" game at the convention, I took some notes for a cheat sheet of the sort that could be passed to people who don't have a copy of the book to give them a very short overview of the setting. Part of the challenge with this game is that there's little point in saying, "You're all otter-people. You meet in a tavern. Go!" It's important to talk about the setting. With an Everway-style adaptation the exact rules aren't important, but you still need to describe some gameplay concepts.

Would you be interested in seeing such a quick set of notes? Would it be all right to post it somewhere publicly, bearing in mind that it summarizes/will summarize a significant amount of setting material from The Book?

Absolutely! Posting it to the World Tree list or something would be one choice.
