Consequences of the Trowel [25 Consimbs 4261]

Helpfully,

Dear Sythyry -- You did that one properly, if maybe a touch obnoxiously. Glad you're getting the hang of court proprieties. Keep that trowel safe! It is at least a valuable collector's item. You might actually show it to some of the Academy faculty. I don't know if there's anyone there at the moment who knows or cares much about other universes, not since Dunpaeth died, but it might be worth a bit of investigation.
-Zemi

And, also:

Dear Sythyry -- It is unacceptable for you to keep the entirety of this implement of horticulture. I recommend that the item be sold, and that one-third of the proceeds be given to the given to the treasury.
-- Eddarna

And, indeed:

Dear Sythyry -- I wish you wouldn't bring offworld stuff into the city. Could you put the trowel somewhere safe for a year or two? Perhaps your father's tower, under some powerful magical locks or some such? Under no circumstances should you sell it! It's far too dangerous! Come talk to me if you have any questions
-- Kaim-Su

This is now officially baffling. And, when I way "officially", I mean "inscribed on very official court or guard stationery." I'd rather just have my awful breakup to be mopey about.

Addendum: Zemi is my half-sibling Hezimikkainen. Eddarna is the lord of the treasury. Kaim-Su is the important city guard.

When in doubt, go with the guy who approves. That's my advice.

Well, why not take Kaim-Su up on his offer first and go talk to him? Maybe he can straighten out Eddarna for you, or at least suggest the appropriate bribe.

I agree... in situations where people in authority figures give conflicting orders... go with the one that is best for you, and then get that authority figure to override the other people..

So... in my opinion... yea, talk to kaim-su, tell him that eddarna expects some bribe, and he can help you figure something out that is for the good--and safety-- of the city, and then you can have some academy people take a look at it before locking it up safely in a tower...

Clearly you can satisfy all three responders as follows: sell the trowel to Glikkonen who can then arrange for it to be held someplace suitably safe.

Actually, I think I like this plan better.

I am impressed.

Glikkonen, or Hezimikinnen. The latter's probably easier to get in touch with.

Have the item appraised. Submit the appraisal with a promisary note to give 1/3 of the proceeds to 'insert carefully worded target here' at the time of sale, minus this small token amount of intent. Include a bribe level token amount of intent.
How to get it appraised, who to promise to pay, and how large a bribe - those I can't help you with.
How often do things go missing from your ~Father~'s tower, and is Zemi fond of other universe artifacts?

Can you ask your half-sibling whether Kaim-su's instructions override Eddarna's, or vice versa?

Several suggestions here seem to make sense. Another option would be to sell it to yourself for 3 lozens (quite expensive, given your estimation that it's worth a few terch as a gardening implement), and then give 1 lozen to the treasury. In theory, you have therefore sold it, yet also not sold it. Thus, you have technically satisfied all requests. And, you can still remove it from the city limits to have it 'kept safe' for you. I would, as others have, suggest giving a few lozens to Eddarna in exchange for the 'hassle of recording receipt such a worthless gift'. :)
