OOC --

I'm getting set to self-publish at least one self-contained novel (The Wrath of Trees, which I have been whining about OOCly for years now).  I'd like to get more involved in the self-publishing community.  In particular, I'd like to read more self-published books (preferably good ones), and get mine better known to readers and reviewers.

So ...

Do you know where that community is?  I know a few sites, but not, say, an LJ community.

(The book that inspired this is Stars Rain Down by Chris Randolph, which I thought was quite good and recommend to anyone who likes SF with a classic feel.)

I wish I knew! But if you find out something useful, let me know!

Send it to Karen Burnham - she's a great and prolific reviewer.

Also, I bet if you could get a bunch of recommendations for it on GoodReads.com, that would help it out a lot, too.

Hi!

Ok, Lazette Gifford who is the owner/operator of the FMwriters.com actually has been doing posts lately about Independent Authors. So here are a couple links for you.

http://lazette.net/ her website
http://zette.blogspot.com/ her blog, several posts are on her Indi books she's putting out.

http://www.fmwriters.com/community/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=545
that last link is to the indi board over at the Forward Motion forums. It is a new board set up specifically for Indi authors. I haven't really looked over it yet but it sounds like it is up your ally.

I hope this helps. When is the book going to be out?

I don't know much about review sites, but...

I very much look forward to The Wrath of Trees! I must make up an excuse why it's an exception to my self-imposed ban on buying books, stat!

Take a look at the comments! I'm probably going to try to get more active on goodreads.com and/or smashwords.com, and see how that goes.

Thanks!

It'll be out in a few weeks if all goes well. Mostly waiting for the artist -- [livejournal.com profile] djinni -- who has some time left on the original deadline, the one he asked for before he volunteered to do several extra pictures.

I'll try to put it out as an e-book, so maybe that'll keep the price down at least?

Not for my sake; if I'm gonna buy a book I do prefer hard copies. It's more a matter of "I shouldn't buy books because I've got a bunch I didn't read yet". Ah, well. If nothing else I've got exceptions written into the resolution already for birthdays (mine and Baby Jesus's).

As for recommendations for getting reviews/generating interest, one thing just occurred to me: www.librarything.com have the Member Giveaway program if you're willing to put a few free copies into promotion (or you could put some e-copies into that program).

I'm reading LJ cause I'm too awake to lay down, but I'm asking for a reminder to go through teh arisia program and give you the data about the (at leats) two panels about self-publishing that was there, evne tho I didn't get to go to them because of the migraine taht I'm about to have a repeat of which is why I'm not reading that right now.

got it? good.

I'm suddenly having an idea that there needs to be something like 'tuneCore' for books.
