Well, reinventing a spell is harder than copying it. Copying is at least certain to give you a copy after a while.
I bought one (1) complexity-100 spell. It was quite expensive. I don't think I could have bought it for lozens, no matter how many, and certainly not nipped down to the corner spellshop. I paid in weeks of enchantment.
This isn't something either of us is going to do every century.
